This past weekend, racers from around the world participated in the 106th Annual Indy 500 race in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year’s 200-lap race was full of pleasant surprises as well as accidents.
Racers Scott Dixon and Alex Palou were neck and neck, swapping between 1st and 2nd place for over 70 laps until Palou was forced to stop for full service due to loss of fuel. Dixon broke the record for most laps lead in Indy 500 history after leading 75 laps in this year’s race. While he was suspected to win, a pit lane speed violation during lap 174 ruined his chances. This allowed for Ericsson, O’Ward, and Kanaan to lead the top three spots for the next 15 laps. In the end, Swedish racer Marcus Ericsson representing Chip Ganassi Racing won 1st place in this year’s Indy 500. This is Ericsson’s first Indy Win making him the 5th winner from Chip Ganassi and the 2nd Swedish winner in the history of Indy.
