IMSA Porsche Gt3 Cup Challenge at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca
CollectionSuites’ founder, Juan Manuel Fayen, got back on the track at the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge that took place this past Saturday, September 21, 2019 and Sunday, September 22, 2019, at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterrey, California. 21 drivers competed in the thrilling two-day race on the legendary 2.230-mile track.
20-year-old Maxwell Root finished victorious on day one, being his 3rd win in a row with a lap time of 1:27.217. Root, however, relinquished his victory to Roman DeAngelis on day two, who took his 10th win of 2019 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.
“I think it was pretty important to get that one off my chest,” DeAngelis said. “Max had a really good run there with three races in a row. We had a tire go in (Race 1 at) Virginia and then I made a mistake myself in Race 2. Then, yesterday he just outpaced us.
“I think it shows a lot. Coming into the weekend, I had never been there and the guys had never with the Gen 2 GT3 Cup car. We put in a lot of work last night to figure out what the issues were from yesterday and clearly it paid off for us.”
With just one final round to go at the IMSA Porsche GT3 Challenge, we’re excited to see what’s yet to come. Next stop: Motul Petit Le Mans track in Braselton, GA.
